Explore the Gaps

Investing time, effort and resources in athletic performance. Sporting organizations across the globe are seeking the opportunities to advance performance. I speak in terms of ‘high performance’ often in my work and with those seeking to manage their teams and individuals in the best manner. My definition of High Performance is the identification of talent, implementing systematic processes to develop the talent, and continuously evaluate the process.

High Performance is the identification of talent, implementing systematic processes to develop the talent, and continuously evaluate the process.’

Unpacking this statement is a continuous and enjoyable process. Talent identification can be reserved for another writing. I will focus on the process of talent development. This is a field that has expanded exponentially with the advent of AI and in prior decades with GPS, data technology, infrastructure of materials and re-imagining proven systems with improved personnel and product.

In observing this Summer of 2024 and the various elite level global events it is fascinating to imagine the nuances that bring sporting organizations to new levels of accomplishment. Depending upon your involvement the Indianapolis 500, 24 Hours of Le Mans, US Olympic Trials, Tour de France, and the current Olympic Games the margin between a podium and in the pack can be miniscule.

I spend much of my time reviewing evidence and anecdotal feedback on mechanism of sleep, recovery products, nutrition, hydration processes and intentional lifestyle.

Talent can overcome many details but not all. The elite environment has less forgiveness of gaps in the process. I will point to two (2) products and processes I have found a high level of value.

One of my favorite tools is hydration sweat rate testing and sweat content analysis. I recommend a process which validates sweat rate and content. The value is in knowing your exact prescription of intake for the talent you are managing. Fatigue and lack of focus is a factor often discussed after a loss in sports. Dehydration is a major contributor to poor performance. To complete the process is to add an InFlow device. Effortless Hydration Testing | InFlow by Intake Health

One newer element for me is to control muscle vibration during activity. SKINS Compression Welcome to SKINS Compression is an extraordinarily well researched product. I use Skins to enhance performance via delayed onset of muscle fatigue. I also use the garments in the rehabilitation process. Athletes rave about the positive impact the compression has comaared to other brands.

In our search of best performance we must continually evaluate the process. In doing quality control we need to address the gaps we might be overlooking.
