Filling the Seats
Identify the stakeholders and develop the rationale. A seven-word sentence that can occupy infinite time and people in pursuit of the best organizational structure. Structure, or form, that aligns with the strategic plan, or the function of the organization.
Over the past twenty-five years I have seen a transformation within sporting organizations. This transformation element I refer to is the addition of positions around athlete management. The drivers are competitiveness of athletics, increased research in sports science, the additive of data intelligence, sophistication of the athlete and outcomes (wins, athlete improvement, time loss reductions).
Organization Design
I share my version of the ‘big idea’ for sporting organizations.
The Strategic Leader sets the vision, inspires a shared vision, encourages collaboration and advocates for the athlete while managing the financial interest of the organization.
I have found significant value in a team of seven area-leaders. These leaders are content experts in their industry, profession, field and can apply, learn and teach to reach goals.
Sporting organization executives want to fill the seats with the right people, doing the right tasks. Beginning with the end in mind, using a template such as my ‘big idea’ is a viable starting spot.
